Tracked machines on every slope
Wheels cut ruts in a wet clay bench and spin on a 30 percent grade. Our carriers run tracks with 75 to 300 hp drum heads. They climb ground a dozer can't. The difference shows up when you mulch the bench instead of sliding off it.

The chip layer is the erosion control
Mulching leaves the chips on the grade, so the ground stays covered the day the machine leaves. State spec requires ground cover within 21 days of a grading phase. Mulch in place meets that clock without bringing in a seeding crew or running silt fence on every contour.

Rock, access, and grade set the price. None of them show on a satellite photo. We walk the slope, the creek, the keep-trees, and the truck route before any figure goes out. You hear which erosion clock you are on at the same time.

County rules, by the number
One acre of disturbance triggers a state erosion and sediment control plan. Inside Asheville city the trigger is 10,000 sq ft. The city slope ordinance starts at 2,220 ft elevation and 15 percent grade. Designated trout waters carry a 25 ft undisturbed buffer from top of bank.

Process
Six phases, permits in the sequence
The same order on every slope. The erosion clock, the trout buffer, and the 21-day cover rule sit inside the work instead of tacked on after.

Walk-through
We walk the slope, access, creek, and keep-trees. You hear which erosion clock applies (1 acre state, 10,000 sq ft inside Asheville, 0.5 acre in Henderson) and whether mulching in place keeps you under it.
- 02
Mark and protect
Paint on the keepers and utilities. A 25 ft undisturbed strip from top of bank on designated trout waters.
- 03
Fell
Chainsaw crew on the big stems, the leaners, and anything near a roof or a line. Keep-trees wear ribbon.
- 04
Mulch
Tracked mulcher in the woods, Ventrac on the mown slopes and fence lines. Chips stay on the grade as cover.
- 05
Grind and haul
Stumps ground below grade, the rest chipped or hauled. Burning only under an NC Forest Service permit.

Hand-off
A cleared envelope, a chip layer, marked corridors, and a written list of what a grading contractor does next.
